Wonderland Coton de Tulčar

Sweet Home Alabama:

Once I had decided to retire from teaching, I had to decide "where to go from here".  I was very fortunate, (or was my path guided?), to discover from one of the dog-related bulletin boards on the net that someone in Alabama had a small farm to sell.  It was set up for dogs as they bred English Cockers, and there was some acreage, and most wonderful of all I could afford it!  This was a dream I never anticipated coming true.  But it did!  I have found a wonderful community and live near some of the most beautiful land the U.S. has to offer.  Peace and quiet (except for barking dogs, of course).  There are always on-going renovation projects and the resulting frustration, but in the meantime my dogs and puppies have a huge yard to play in, I have a great flower garden developing, I have two mini burros as guard donkeys against coyotes, I have a state park to hike through, I wake to a sense of adventure and enjoy a renewed sense of spirit which I appreciate and share with my dogs daily.  It seems remarkable to me that the name "Wonderland" which I adopted casually years ago has evolved into the perfect name and concept as my life is now.  I am a part of a magical and whimsical experience to which the dogs are key.  I don't necessarily follow the white rabbit through the looking glass, but this adventure is just as enchanting and bears the promise of more to come.

2004 Show Results:

Shameless du Domaine de Luniray earns his ARBA Championship.  I thought he finished a year or so ago, but apparently miscounted his CACUS's.  ARBA requires nine wins (Winners Dog, Winners Bitch, Best of Breed or Opposite or above earns one CACUS) but they had him only winning eight.  So, despite his stunning photo with the judge, we had to work on this some more.  Judge George Studebaker awarded "Pudgie" his win with a Best of Breed and Group One to follow in Kalamazoo, MI.  This was very rewarding since Judge Studebaker is very respected and experienced judging not only dogs but other forms of livestock as well.  Plus we had some tough competition!  Here is the shot from his first "championship" win:

Uriel du Domaine de la Rouviere earned three CACUS's at the ARBA Kalamazoo, MI show.  "Leah" is now involved in pet therapy in Birmingham and lives with a wonderful lady named Jackie.  She will be bred twice in between her many good will visits and is expecting puppies in June (06).

Theodore du Domaine de la Rouviere was shown twice at the Kalamazoo show and earned one CACUS.  I was proud of him as he is not comfortable in new situations and this was a little stressful.  He did very well, walking on a loose lead and tail up the whole time!  Good boy, Theo!!!  (Some dogs simply do not like to show, and if that is the case I leave them home on the farm with their buddies and my friend Scarlett).

Halloween weekend:  I knew I had puppies expected that weekend because I always have puppies expected any weekend I really, really want to go to a show.  It may only be two or three times a year, but that's when a mama goes into heat and when she is bred and when she is expecting. Anyway, Katie was bred and her due date was that weekend.  Fortunately she had her pups a few days earlier so after a reassuring visit to the vet, I decided to leave most of the dogs in the hands of my neighbors, (one of whom house sat), and go to the show.  Spending the minimum time possible away from home, I had a great time when my friend Pam Osborne showed up with her crew.  It is always more fun when you have a friend to share conversation with and provide competition for your dogs.

I brought Magnolia Blanc of Woodland Cottage and Wonderland's Cut to the Chase.  Magnolia did very well, winning three CACUS's, and Chase did great against a beautiful male of Pam's by splitting the shows winning two CACUS's.  You can go to the ARBA website (www.ARBA.org) and click on the Atlanta Peachtree results to see a few photos.  Here are some photos that Pam was nice enough to send me:

2005-6 Show Results:

I showed Chase and Scarlett showed Stetson in 2005.  Stetson won 5 Best Puppy in Show (against competition).  He is such a beautiful dog!  Chase is still not championed yet, but getting closer each show.  In fact, he earned his International Championship in Lexington, KY recently.  You can see his photo on the first page of my site.  I also showed Sylvie (Emma x Theo) at that show and she got her national puppy championship against two older females.  Last but not least, Tasha, my Russian Toy Terrier, earned 4 CACUS's at an ARBA show in 2005 and got her International Championship at the Lexington IABCA show.
